    Description

We offer for your consideration this beautiful Zuni Rain Bowl.
This bowl is a piece of low fire ceramics (non vitreous) and polychrome painted.
The upper edge of the bowl is stepped in the style of many zuni bowls.
The steps are said to be representative of the mountains, some say the clouds.
As this is a rain bowl, perhaps the later is the appropriate meaning.
The bowl is decorated with beautifully stylized depictions of birds and of the Horned toad.
This bowl is approximately 6 1/2 inches wide at the top lip.
This bowl stands approximately  3 1/4 inches tall.
    The bowl has no foot.
The clay body looks to be a buff color. The construction is by hand, perhaps coil construction. The pigments used in the line work look to be a brown and red iron oxide. The white colorant looks to be a white body clay slip.
The applied colorants are matte in texture.
If you are a collector of the ceramics/pottery of the indigenous peoples of north America this Zuni Rain Bowl will be a beautiful addition to your collection.
