Brass Victorian Doorbell And Lever (Sargent)

This is  very nice Doorbell and Lever combinations made by Sargent. Sargent doorbells are probably the best lever type bells as far as reliability and function.
Their patented hammer arrangement never gets out of adjustment thus assuring a consistent ring every time. While this bell is operated with a lever the bell could also be operated with a bell pull.
The 4" diameter bell is made of brass with a nice design and polished finish. The back plate is made of cast iron. The equally attractive lever is made of brass and is about 4 1/2" by 2 1/2"  The bell should fit a door up to 2" thick
. The back plate has patent dates of 1872,1873 and 1876. The bell is in excellent working condition.
